The School-Based Restorative Justice grant opportunity opened in March 2022 has now closed and will no longer accept applications.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court voted to grant Rule Petition 21-04 to amend Wis. Stats. §48.299 and §938.299 Regulating the Use of Restraints on Children in Juvenile Court. The rule establishes a presumption against shackling in juvenile court, promote the humane treatment of children, strengthen rehabilitation efforts, and maintain safety. The GJJC testified in support of the petition.

The GJJC presents the Tony Maggiore Youth Excellence Award to a remarkable young person in Wisconsin every two years. This award recognizes a youth person, having prior contact with the juvenile justice system, that has achieved personal success and has made positive contributions to their community. Please review the memo and nomination form if you would like to nominate a youth or young adult.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice opened a school-based restorative justice program grant opportunity. This funding opportunity will support schools in introducing restorative justice principles and practices to their school discipline policies and procedures or expanding their use within the district. Applications will be accepted until April 29th or all funding is awarded, whichever is first.

The Positive Youth Development Mentoring grant opportunity opened in January 2022 has now closed and will no longer accept applications.

GJJC Supports SB862 and AB856 - The GJJC sent a letter to the Wisconsin Legislature supporting Assembly Bill 856 and Senate Bill 862, relating to sentencing for crimes committed by a person who is under the age of 18. The proposed legislation takes up policies the GJJC recommended to incorporate into the 2020 Legislative Interim Research Report on Criminal Sentencing of Juvenile Offenders.
